WHAT DO ROOM PARENTS DO?
Especially, at this unprecedented time, room parents are a vital part of the Liberty Corner School culture. Following, is a list of the regular room parent responsibilities. Please note, that some of these procedures may change, due to this year’s school policies. Room Parents help to connect parents to each other and to their teacher. By doing so, they build a strong parent community, which is paramount to LCS!
- Room parents are responsible for knowing school policies and procedures as they relate to communications, classroom parties, parent participation, volunteering, and gift-giving. Room parents must be members of good standing within the LCS PTO; as well as able to use (or willing to learn how to use) Zoom, the SignUp Genius website, as well as the online AtoZ directory.
- Room parents communicate important information; assist with projects; centers for the Kindergarten classes; and help to coordinate volunteers for class parties and field trips. Room parents must also be comfortable with collecting money from other classroom parents, holding this money, and purchasing two gifts for their classroom teacher, over the course of the school year.
- Two parents will be selected per homeroom.
A Zoom Room Parent Orientation will be given to all room parents on 9/10 @ 7pm & Teachers will reach out to room parents in September to schedule a 15 minute meeting, to provide specifics of the room parent role for their individual classrooms.
Sign-ups will be open from: 8/26-9/7
Room parents will be selected by the administration and alerted by: 9/9
Please note this special opportunity for ALL 5th Grade Room Parents:
The 5th grade room parents will also be our “5th grade committee.” The 5th Grade Committee will include: one parent from each of the 5 homerooms, plus one PTO board member.

(Please note that the role of the 5th grade room parent is limited in comparison to lower grades) As well a,s the 5th grade car wash, 5th grade clap-out, 5th grade celebration day & any other end of year commemorative activities. The 5th grade committee organizes sales to fund the celebration party through bake sales, ice-cream trucks, etc. at sanctioned school events. This committee is an integral part of ensuring that our 5th graders have a memorable last year at LCS. If you want to make an impact on your student’s experience by helping to organize their 5th grade end of year activities, this is the perfect opportunity!
