A Message from the PTO President - Jeanne Starr

We did it! Congratulations for another incredible year of fun events and successful fundraising. From our first event of the year, Pizza Night, to our last event of the year, Fifth Grade Celebration, the PTO delivered lots of enjoyment to the LCS community. We raised $40,000 through our various fundraisers to support our Wizards of Words and Enrichment programs for next year. We introduced Pancakes for Supper, a new event which was well attended and proved to be a delicious alternative to cooking at home. Also this year the PTO was able to deliver the Trial of the Big Bad Wolf to the third grade and the ever-popular Battle of the Books for the fourth and fifth graders when they were dropped due to budget cuts. We truly have an amazing group of parents and children. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered and supported all our school events.

While we did have many successes it is also important to reflect upon our failure this year to pass the Board of Education budget. We will have a huge deficit cliff next year that we must somehow overcome. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, one of our greatest presidents, once said, “The school is the last expenditure upon which America should be willing to economize.” Please stay involved and knowledgeable about the budget this coming year. Our children’s future depends upon it.

The end of a school year always brings around a lot of change and sometimes a tear or two. We will truly miss Marie Barnett, Elda Feldman, Amy Jones, Dorit Kransdorf, and Elaine Kusel as they leave the PTO Board after many years of exemplary service. We welcome Maggie Gould, Zaida Harrison, Larissa Milligan, Barb Sileo and Heather Whyte-Kattas to the LCS PTO Board. We are very fortunate to have such a fine group of enthusiastic volunteers for next year. And a fond farewell to the fifth graders and our Media Specialist Deb Goetjen who will head over to WAMS.

A few reminders:

  • Report cards are available online.
  • Class assignments will be emailed to you on August 26. Please make sure the School District has your correct email information. Please do not call the school office to ask about class assignments.
  • The District will be setting up a temporary website with school supply information for next year. Look for details to follow.
  • The new Communications Director is Heather Whyte-Kattas, heather.whyte-kattas@lexisnexis.com – make sure to put her on your safe-senders list and look for emails from her in the fall. If you are not receiving any LCS PTO emails in September contact Heather.

Wishing everyone a restful and relaxing summer. We have many new events planned for next year and we will need your ongoing support! Enjoy!
